Looking back...

Remember when i first moved in how i hated this room? How it made me feel down in the dumps (literally) and completely alone?

Since then it's amazing how i have grown used to this place. Admittedly, it is rather run-down and ratty looking. And admittedly, there are some quirks of my flatmates that got to me initially - e.g. smoking (alot), boozing (alot), rearing mould in the fridge etc. But for all it's worth, it's not so bad. They are generally quiet, respectful and nice people. They make it a point to smoke in the kitchen, rather than in the corridors, and they've kinda stopped the heavy boozing (i don't know why). They're friendly, they don't make a lot of noise (except when they are doing "stuff"), they don't steal my food, and they sometimes offer to share their food with me....which is more than i can ask for in flatmates i suppose.

So i guess i should be thankful for the little things that life has thrown my way...

....Like getting to know more people while i am here in London - not just more people, but different types of people. My previous flat was very 'Asian' - 2 Japs, 1 Pakistani, 1 Greek. This flat is completely different - American, British, French, Greeks - it's a very different atmosphere, and one that i am glad for. It has made my life in London a lot more 'cosmo'.
....Like learning to live without some of my creature comforts and be less 'spoilt' - i am now perfectly ok with sharing a toilet and shower with 6 other people, even though that was something i couldn't imagine doing before i came here. Little blond curly hairs on the shower wall used to gross me out; now i just flush it away like i've been doing it all my life and it never bothered me.
....Like being able to grow my very own mushrooms in my wardrobe (only when the weather is warm and the wood is damp). For health reasons i have yanked the mushroom out, but not before it grew to a respectable size! Such a sense of achievement. :P

So i guess it's true then what they say -
"what doesn't kill you will make you stronger",
"happiness is a state of mind", and
"nobody will steal your kiam chye".

Heh. I had another bitch fest with my American flatmate today. This time it wasn't about the Irish guy. In fact, surprise surprise, it was about the new Jap girl. She had cooked a pot of beans two days ago and left it on the stove. The odd thing is, I just saw her heat it up and eat it! She didn't put it in the fridge or anything! Gawd. The Japos are crazy!

Oh. And my milk got stolen again today. Sigh.

Maybe she was leaving the beans to ferment? hehe. Speaking of milk, good thing I read this. Reminds me that I have to drink more to get my calcium. Just had my big toenail removed and it hurts like heck.
