Random Weekend Sightings

This weekend has been punctuated with weird and not-so-wonderful sightings. Which is kinda surprising given that it was supposed to be a quiet, meaningful weekend spent hanging out with my friends here in London - the way i would like to spend my penultimate weekend in London.

But anyway these are certainly things that will stand out in my memory of my year in London, so i might as well document them in some form...

Q1: What's worse than a hot, stuffy tube carriage?
Ans: A hot, stuffy tube carriage with vomit in it.

When was on the platform waiting for a train at bayswater on Friday night, i was pleased to see a train pull up with a fairly empty carriage amidst all the others packed with smelly, half-drunk pple. So i got onto the half-empty carriage, only to find that there was a pool of puke in the middle of the carriage...what's worse, when the train started moving, the puke started trickling up and down the carriage. It was truly disgusting. I mean it should come as no surprise given the number of half-drunk people walking around on weekends here in London, but still, it is not a pretty sight / smell.

Anyway i got out at the next stop and went over to the next carriage. When i got there, i realised that half the people there had moved over from the smelly carriage, and were apparently quite amused with all the people getting onto the smelly carriage and reacting with looks of horror and covering their faces to mask the smell. It was like an episode of one of those candid camera type shows where people just watch you from a distance and laugh at you. Evul i know, but it really goes to show that there is humour in everything, even bile.

Q2: Why is Camden so dodge?
Ans: I don't know. Birds of a feather flock together?

We went to Camden for tapas and sangria tonight. Before dinner, we were just walking around and were struck by the number of dodge and scary looking people around. Granted they are harmless if you just mind your own business and ignore them, but still...there are only so many goths and punks you can take before you start feeling self-conscious about looking normal (emphasis on 'looking' normal).

There was this stupid tourist dweeb who decided to go dangerously close to a group of punks to take a picture of them. This strikes me as an incredibly stupid thing to do considering these people are not exactly poster-kids for the courtesy campaign. Not friendly looking people AT ALL. So anyway as expected the punk got pissed and gestured for the dweeb to come over. After a little pow-wow, i saw the dweeb handing over some money. Then the punks became all smiley and cooperative and posed sweetly for the dweeb. Quite charming, these punks.

Just round the corner from that, less than 20m away, lay a man on the street with blood streaming out from his head. I had only ever seen these things in photos before so it had 'ogle value' for a while, before the guy started to get up and walk around groggily. Then it got scary. It was then that i realised that people looking dead don't bother me as much as people looking dead trying to look alive.

One week more before CH comes up, then we're off to Italy! Yay!
