the first thing that hit me when i stepped off the plane in heathrow last week, was how horribly shitty english weather is. after spending a month of fun in the sun (and lots of rain) in singapore, i had almost forgotten how absolutely depressing this place is. and boy is it depressing. perhaps it is coupled with the pangs of being away from home again, perhaps it is the uncertainty of not knowing what lies ahead this coming term. whatever it is, i can understand why people lapse into such grave depression during the winter months.

here is a picture of the little park near where i used to live. it's called Coram's Fields and when the sun is out or the weather is fine it is kept lively with the warmth and sounds of children and soccer players. but now it is all barren and quiet. utterly depressing.
before i came i was actually looking forward to winter, particularly to seeing snowfall. but now i think - nah, forget it, i'd rather have a drop of sunshine any day.

My dear, it's only January. It's too early to get depressed about the weather. February is the worst. And then you get cold snaps in March. But wait for spring. It's a great feeling when you see the first buds of spring. Until then, enjoy the cold, crisp air which we will never get in Singapore.
