saturday morning started with a hike down Borough Market with AC and WN. AC and WN are both actually CH's colleagues from SCB. we are all around the same age and AC and i also share some mutual friends and a mutual JC, so there is enough for the 3 of us to yak about and we get along pretty well. :) Borough Market was exciting as usual, walked at least 2 rounds around the cheese and freebie section to savour all the sample cheeses - some were nice and nutty cheeses (like me!) and others were a bit blah. but if u ever want to fill up your stomach on cheeses, this is the place to go!
on the other side of Borough Market were the meats and wines and other weird things. one of the usual attractions is this place that sells hares, pheasants and ducks (all dead of course). if u are grossed out by images of dead animals hanging off a fence, scroll very fast down over the next 2 photos NOW!
contrary to angmor reactions, the dead animals didn't really gross me out. they are nothing compared to the slaughtering of chickens that used to take place in wet markets in Singapore - i.e. grab chicken, struggle with chicken, slit throat of chicken, throw chicken into "defeathering" drum, then throw chicken into "tumble dry" drum. some ang mors were 'ooh-ing' and 'aah-ing' at the carcasses and were hiding away from them but honestly they looked more like stuffed toys than dead animals because they don't look bloody and don't smell.
what WAS gross however, was this kid who was stroking the dead pheasant...
after stroking the pheasant, he took out his pacifier and played with it with the same hand...yeee...and the angmors call us dirty.
after Borough Market, we just sat by the river and had a cup of tea before trotting off down to Bayswater where AC lives. i kinda like Bayswater area, it has everything you might need or want, especially a good selection of chinese/asian restaurants. there is also a new Singaporean restaurant that has opened there called 'Kiasu' - i think we need a newer and better singaporean identity. we had dinner at Gold Mine restaurant which was pretty good. I actually think the roast duck there is as good as 4 seasons, though some people think otherwise. whatever it is, got good food can already. :)
after gallivanting the whole day on sat, i decided to spend the whole of sunday and today at my uncle's place just to relax, do some reading, watch some tv...it was kinda creepy at times in a big old empty house all by myself (they are on holiday) but i just kinda used the tv as my pacifier..metaphorically.
and thus concludes the adventures of the gallivanting vermin....to be continued next weekend when she makes a trip down to Oxford! :)

Borough Market - that's the one next to London Bridge, right? Next time you go to the market, must look for a shop by the name of Bedales and try their Sicilian olive oil. It's REALLY good.
